I like how I look in swimsuits. I have learned to love my shape over the years - big ol' booty and all! I know that so many people have an issue finding suits that they approve of... but I honestly have an easier time with swimwear than with clothing. I think I look better without clothing on than with, and I also think a LOT of other people do too. It doesn't help that long-torsoed people don't have as many one-piece options either, so bikinis are my easiest choice.

I also know what I don't like in swimwear. I don't like small bikini bottoms that show my buns (I like to keep that skin hidden), I don't like swimwear that hits right at the love-handles and cuts into them, and I don't like tops that aren't supportive enough.

This year I bought a swimsuit online for the second time and it was still a little nerve-wracking. Last year I loved the top I ordered, but the bottoms were too small and they didn't even make a larger size! So back it went... This year I ordered a matching set along with a pair of miss-matched bottoms, and I love all three! I ordered them from the same place as before, ASOS. I felt comfortable because they have free shipping (over $25), free returns, and a billion suits for cheap. I am not being paid or compensated in ANY way from anyone for this post. I seriously just love this website.

I love miss-matched suits. These sets are a little more unexpected than usual, sure to give you a totally unique look! I've classified these by body-type as well, to best accentuate your assets!
One of the reasons I chose this, is that both bottoms will go great with my yellow ruffled & pink gingham tops from Target (years ago) as well as my cute pinup-style suit. Plus, the red set is made by Freya (a bra brand), so I trusted it would hold up the ladies well - it does.

And also, THOSE FAKE POCKETS! I could die they're so cute.
My first in weeks, I'm so proud of my willpower!

Anyway, as I innocently wandered down the makeup & lotion aisles I grabbed a few products to try out:
- Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream
- L'Oreal True Match LUMI foundation
- and a Maybelline eyeshadow single in Vanilla.

I'm really excited about this lotion! I've heard good things and I tried it out tonight. I'll let you know how I like it and what benefits I see after I've used it for the advertised 5 days.

My current foundation is too dark for me, but the darkest the line comes in (Neutrogena brand) so this is my first try at a light foundation this summer! Let the games begin. I really like the L'Oreal BB Cream I use (review coming later this month), so I have high hopes for this one!

I'm always on the hunt for the BEST cheap white eyeshadow. I haven't tried it out yet, but I'll take it for a spin in the next two days!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06007748176969935459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6094090848669581305.post-37279712740382797272014-05-18T21:14:00.002-06:002014-05-18T21:54:15.095-06:00CHANGING GEARSMy friend and I started 'Whiskey for Breakfast' a couple of years ago to share our love for fun fashion, costumes, beauty, and diy projects. We didn't do the best job of keeping up with the blog...

I've always had so much fun playing with my makeup, dressing in a way that gets a lot of 'I love it, but I wouldn't wear it...'s, and generally injecting a sense of humor into my daily style. Costumes aren't just for Halloween, dramatic makeup isn't just for the evening, and it can be fun to clash a little! If I don't have a project going (clothing, decor, or art), I feel lost!

I love spending time playing with my hair, clothing, and makeup. I am my own life-size doll! Experimentation is everything.

I am also going to embark on a 'beauty safari.' I'm pale, basically translucent. Face makeup, mainly foundation, never seems to match my skin tone. There's not much yellow in my skin, but I have some pink and a lot of freckles. I have acne (more than when I was a teen!) and some big ol' pores I like to cover up.
It's time to try until I find the right one! Join me on my journey to find the perfect foundation that won't kill my bank account!

Though I wish I could buy all the cool ones, I'll settle with sharing them here. Then later I can have this nice list to shop from!

My art room is full of pretty pastels, and any (OR ALL) of these would be amazing in there:

My entryway could use a nice small rug. I don't want anything too bold for the front door. My husbands office is adjacent and full of muted blues and grays. I think one of these would go nicely:

On another note, I need this more than I need to breathe:

I don't get too bad in the winter when I'm craving soup, but that doesn't last long and I go back to the fast food, random meals from Albertson's or Winco, or a soy chai latte with vanilla. Sound full of nutrients to you? Yeah, me neither.

That's why I'm setting myself on this new path. I'm making a list of my favorite (healthy) snacks and foods that will be easy to make ahead or in the morning and pack to work. I ordered a sweet bento box and little condiment containers for salad dressing from Amazon.

If I do a good job of taking lunch to work, I get a Kiki's delivery service bento with Jiji on it!

I love fruit, hummus, dried fruit and some veggies for snacks. As it is, I've been having grape tomatoes and raspberries for snacks between meals, dessert, boredom grazing... but it's the main course that I have issues with.

Sammiches are my favorite. But I always have to assemble them at work. I like my bread toasted most of the time and avocado doesn't hold up well for long. This little box should help me contain all the ingredients with plenty of room to hold some salad mix with a bit of salad dressing on the side as well as some snacks.

Some wraps and lettuce wraps seem as though they may hold up in the hours between making and eating. But again, I LOVE AVOCADO. On everything. So it is either find a substitute, or unwrap and add it at work. Maybe make a paste and smear it on the outside?

We also get these amazingly delicious little flatbreads at Costco that are perfect for making little pizzas. So again, toast the bread, then add cheese and toppings to melt. What isn't going to be assembly required?! So much to plan!

I'll add updates on what works for me and how I like my boxes. If you have any meal ideas for me, I'm so ready to hear them!
Lately I feel like I do way more planning than doing.

- Planning for decorating/furniture/art projects/building projects/gardening for the new house without getting to implement a lot of it. This, of course, includes many hours of online window shopping and journeying through shops.

- Dreaming about getting a new car since we pretty much have one vehicle (a classic truck is not good for a daily driver) and sometime in the next couple years I'll need 4 doors. I think we've decided on a Versa Note. I love little hatchbacks, what can I say?
- Coming up with new template and logo ideas for the etsy shop.
- Thinking about when we might want to try for kids and ALL OF THE THINGS that come with that. I'm actually thinking about getting this really cute dress from modcloth because I know I could wear it well into the pregnancy. I'M NOT TRYING TO GET PREGNANT. Who plans ahead like this? On the flip side, the last two dresses I bought would probably not fit if I even gained 5 points...

I couldn't get a rug or any accessories for the living room until the couch we ordered arrived. Now I can't because the color of the couch they delivered is SO far off it's not even close (we ordered dark gray, got light beige, lighter than our carpet). We ordered a dark gray to match the cat's fur better... this one isn't quite right for that.

But RC Willey was great about it. We just took in a cushion to prove it was wrong, they ordered us a new one, and we use the wrong one until it's ready. It wasn't even their fault, they put in the order right... it was just made wrong somehow.

I assembled this sweet shelf the other night while the husband slept. Not much on the shelf in this photo as I snapped it just after midnight when I finished it, but It's a bit better now. Some photo frames, flowers, and it's a good place to store our fermenting crock! I think I'll look for some baskets for the bottom shelf. It is also more gray than this picture shows, I love the color!

I have not found one single dining table I like. Add that my husband wants some huge ornate monstrosity (we do NOT live in a castle, honey!). So we are borrowing my parents' old table they no longer need. It's not bad. If I was willing to paint it and recolor the chair seats I would probably love it, but that project would be at least a year out with all the other ones I've got going.

My art room is up and running well! I have a great HUGE storage unit I
got at the Youth Ranch (thrift store) months back for $40 that I need to
paint and get in there. Until that happens I've got all sorts of
furniture cast offs lining the walls and painted fun colors.

Organization: I've got a gold tray for my yarns, purple storage for embroidery thread, a yellow rack and a blue/gray shelf for paints, fabric paints, and paint pens. The white/blue plastic drawer holds felt. Frames, canvases, pads of paper, and things waiting to be hung are in three piles leaning on the walls. The yellow rolling cart (formerly the home of so much booze) is a good wrangler for my fabric bins. The woodgrain box holds clothes that need repaired.
Drawers in the desk hold cutting tool, taping & pasting tools, and other various sewing things. The rainbow drawers hold my drawing pencils & pens, prismacolor pencils, prismacolor markers, and various bits of sketches and random things. Books, scrapbooking supplies, and photos are held on the big black entertainment unit.

See?! So much random furniture. I'll have to keep the pink and silver shelf though. So sweet! I also need to make a few more pinatas to keep my tiny orange one company. It looks so lonely, and I have so much crepe paper left over from the wedding.

And I love my little window bench! I just have a blanket on it until I find time to make a cushion. But I do love that peach blanket. I got it at a yard sale for less than $5, and I always love a deal! And it matches my hair!

See ya next time!
Things to look forward to:
- We should close on our house this week and be moved in by January 1st!
- Furnishing and making new memories in our home
- Dying my hair a super fun color (already lined up!) in January
- I'm learning so many new things and expanding what I do in my job and it's very exciting
- Game nights with our friends
- My little etsy shop has been going well lately, and I'm loving creating new products
- Our first wedding anniversary
- Maybe thinking about additions to the family!

Goals I for the first part of the year:
- I would love to create a scrapbook for each year we have together. At the end of each month, I hope to compile a few pages for that month to describe what we were up to.
- More prints, printables, and templates for the shop
- Finally put together our wedding guestbook quilt (I haven't had an art room for months!)
- Get back to painting & embroidery - it's been awhile since I've taken either seriously
- Keep learning to knit, I mostly don't screw up and end up with holes anymore. Mostly...
- I have a top-secret project (my own convenience invention) that I really want to design and build

Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06007748176969935459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6094090848669581305.post-91485501964638173942013-09-05T10:17:00.000-06:002013-09-05T10:17:00.133-06:00Dreaming of decoratingCam and I are buying a house!! Kind of... we're buying a lot, and a floor plan, and then it's getting built. So we have until around January or February before we have an ACTUAL house.

I'm so excited!

And this gives me months of knowing basically what my house will look like to plan out how I want it to be arranged, to be decorated, etc. So happy! I'm sure I will have a lot of inspiration posts in the future - I have so much to think about!
It will feature cute clothes that could be worn everyday but also worn for adorable costumes!

Personally, I love dressing up for Halloween or really any occasion. We love having theme parties (most recently, 80's new year and old man party - I wish I had a good picture of my curler mohawk!) or just themed dress up nights out (also 80's, dumb and dumber outfits, 'fancy lady,' etc).
It's great to be able to throw together a cute outfit at the last minute for any occasion, so I present to you my first installment:

Mario, of the Mario Brothers Marios.
All you need is a hat! Black shoes and white gloves optional. More than house shopping! It is nearly fall, which I love, and I'm ready for lots of new clothes. Alas... I need to spend almost no money on clothes right now while we save toward a down payment. So I will continue window shopping. Here are some dresses I'm really coveting right now.

My body really looks best in fit & flare and shift dresses. Luckily they always make such cute ones! 2 and 3 are probably too short, but otherwise these would be great for work! I think 4 and 6 are my favorites for right now, but 5 (though covered in candy) makes me feel wintery and I love that.Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06007748176969935459noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6094090848669581305.post-59120009462819873632013-08-26T10:00:00.000-06:002013-08-26T11:48:05.460-06:00Tour de Fat 2013Another August, another Tour de Fat bike parade and beer festival! We were lucky, as ever since we left it's been unbearably smoky in that area from the fires. We rented a canoe, drank beer, stopped at all sorts of scenic overlooks, and hung out in a hotsprings hottub in the morning.
I’ve been wanting to redesign for awhile. I still love herringbone , navy & gray, and bold patterns, but I just can’t look at the same thing every day for so long. But with the wedding I’ve been pretty inactive here, and summer has been a lot of fun (yard saleing, trips, floating rivers, wearing colorful wigs, drinking beer on patios, etc), but it’s almost the best season, AUTUMN, and I will have more to share soon.

I’ve also changed my picture over to the side to a fully ridiculous picture of myself. I’m not really a fan of my teeth, but I just look like I’m having a great time here. And, I guess, CANOE! Right?

II’ve already decided what I’ll be doing for Halloween (hint - disney character) and what I’ll be making Cam be as well, and they will both take a bit of work. Need to get started soon!

I’ve also picked up a few projects from the auction, the Idaho Youth Ranch (thrift store), and yard sales. Now that we’ve cleared out a bit of our garage junk I should have room for some serious furniture updates. I managed to pick up a huge amazing wall-mounted grandfather clock for really cheap.

We’re also on the hunt for a house in our little town. This isn’t the easiest thing to accoumplish, as there isn’t a whole lot of selection. Because of this, I’m going to be on a saving spree. This means no more new clothes for awhile (unless I really really fall in love), fewer nights out, and more dinners at home.
We’ve been doing a lot of BBQing this summer on our new grill, but we have a hard time cooking dinner when we both get home around 5-5:30 and are immediately ready for food!

More importantly, this means we (I) get to decorate a house that is mine and not a rental! I can’t wait. I would love to get an older home, but Cameron is really wanting to get one that is as new as possible.
I guess I’ll just have to create character in the home, since there won’t be any inherent in a cookie-cutter development home.

Oh, and here’s a screenshot of what the site looked like before, you know - for posterity.
- oh yeah, and this is completely unsolicited and unsponsored!!

The first good eyeshadow I ever bought was this palette from Urban Decay. At the time I was in high school, so nearly $40 for eyeshadow was insane to me. But I was so happy with it! It lasted years, and even then, some of the colors I never fully used because they are so saturated. Honestly, when you're using turquoise, you don't need a whole bunch!

It's only $10 now! I'm sure it's being discontinued at that price, but TEN BUCKS? Are you kidding me? JACKPOT.

The individual 'deluxe shadows' colors are also for sale for $4 each... but I only ever bought one (the hot pink when I ran out) and I didn't like it as much. Their other eye shadows are great, but this was the only one I got from that line and I wasn't as impressed.

It is very sparkly, but some of the colors were surprisingly neutral on me, I'm so pale, and scratch became my glittery base color. Young people, old ladies, everyone always loves my crazy eyeshadow, and this is where I started it all. Currently I'm usually too lazy unless I'm dressing up (or costuming up) for some reason to get all dolled up, but I really do miss it.Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06007748176969935459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6094090848669581305.post-20616567597938604962013-07-25T10:20:00.000-06:002013-07-25T10:21:28.523-06:00Things I Think About Thursday

The past few weeks I have been making these kinds of things in my non-work hours.
Before that all of my non-work hours were devoted to wedding crap making. So I guess I could share a few wedding pictures! I love our photographer, she did such an amazing job. I have about 700 pictures and I absolutely love about 95% of them (the rest I had a ridiculous expression on my face, usually this is 100% of my pictures)

The wedding was really fun. It was warm (but not too hot), I got a nice strappy back sunburn that morning, and Cam's parent's showed up until about three hours late. Because they stayed up until about 5 drinking. Other than those two things it was super great!

In less exciting news, I had to take my engagement ring in for it's bi-annual inspection (for the warranty, you see) and there was a teeny tiny diamond missing. So now I don't get it back for about two months. That's so freaking long! I miss you, pretty ring :(
My bridal shower has been a topic of discussion lately... for various strange reasons (apparently my FMIL is going to throw it for me? She emailed my bridesmaid to tell her she has already started planning it) and I know I wanna look pretty. So I did what any normal girl would do... virtual shopping spree!

I went window shopping at Modcloth and picked out an entire outfit. I would love to wear this to my shower!
I know what I want and I will push to get it. I have a different style than the rest of my family (understatement...), so throughout the planning process I've had a lot of my choices questioned. And questioned, again and again. I always defend my opinions and don't let others change my mind when I want something.

But sometimes its worth it to just give in. Sometimes, I don't really care that much and I let go.

I'm not going to let someone tell me what to wear, or dictate things that are important to me. But sometimes, I just don't care enough about certain details to really put my opinion in.

- There was a beautiful birch four-post structure I wanted to use for an altar. It wasn't very expensive, but for 15 minutes of use it seemed too much. So now my dad will be making me one out of wood. All I care about is how I decorate it, I'm not too invested in the structure itself...

- Bouquets... have been a problem for me. I finally gave in and my mom will be making the actual bouquets out of real flowers. I don't care enough, and she really seems to want them. All the other flowers will still be made out of crepe paper!

- Envelopes?! Apparently my mom really wanted pretty colored envelopes for the invitations. I just wanted opaque ones. We had to order them in at a paper shop, and they cost just over $50. My invitations were under $200 for the whole suite!!!

- I couldn't think of anything for favors. My mom really wanted to use these cute little white boxes she found at Michael's and tie them up with ribbon and little charms. We picked out cute little assorted feather and bird charms to tie on them. Something chocolate or cookie will go inside, she just hasn't decided what she wants to make.

- The cake has been up to my mother the whole time. She's making it, and as long as it tastes good she has free reign. This will be covered in scattered little edible flowers she's ordering.

There have been little things along the way. Small details in the decor that I don't care about, things that were too expensive or time consuming the way I want to do them. But there have been things I won't budge on, like making my cake topper. My feather garlands on the altar. My veil and accessories. The guy's outfits. Custom designing my own invitations. And all the hand-made decorations.

I just have to learn to let go of some things if I'm going to be able to accomplish the things that are really important to me!Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06007748176969935459noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6094090848669581305.post-82061509156354054472013-02-22T08:53:00.004-07:002013-02-22T08:55:22.948-07:00Wedding Details - DJ dilemmaThe original plan was to use a laptop and a sound system. Make my own playlists (with help, I'm not a modern dance-y music person), have people switch back and forth when they're bored, whatever.

via - do I want to end up like this during my reception?

The pros:
- $40 to rent the sound system
- $10/month subscription to Spotify for unlimited music & offline play, no ads
- Getting to choose basically every song

The cons:
- Someone will have to be in charge during the ceremony, and hopefully schedule the music correctly
- Drunk people messing with my laptop, closing the music program accidentally, etc
- Having to worry at all about the music during the whole shebang
- Needing to choose basically every song

It leans pretty heavily to the cons, right? So maybe a DJ wouldn't be so bad? Except for the price. I've only looked at one (the closest guy I could find to the venue) and it was just over $1000 for 5 hours. I almost crapped my pants when I saw the prices. So... that's not going to happen.

I'll keep looking for other prices. Plus there's a wedding show tomorrow, maybe I'll see some DJs there. I also contacted a friend that I think DJs wedding to see what his prices would be like.

Anyone have any ideas? Know any good DJs around Boise, Idaho? Katehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06007748176969935459noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6094090848669581305.post-13113610743472978532013-02-17T15:52:00.003-07:002013-02-22T09:16:19.353-07:00Wedding details - February already?!So we're halfway through February... and I'm starting to stress a little bit! So much left to do.

Good news - got bridesmaid's dresses picked out and ordered this weekend - we're going with these pretty dresses from Target:

All the girls are going to wear gray, but I'm hoping I'll have some time to make a pretty floral sash to replace the gray one. Each girl will wear a different color of tights (yellow orange and turquoise) and I don't really care what they do with their shoes... they're big girls, they can decide!

I'm just happy this detail is out of the way, hopefully they all fit!

My mom and I started playing around with centerpiece stuff on Saturday afternoon - so that is getting started. I've been making flowers here and there also. Not many done yet, but I've still got time.

My cousin is going to make a pretty tree branch altar for us, and I'm going to make hanging garlands of feathers and maybe lace (I have a bunch of lace ribbon from the auction this summer) to blow in the wind and look pretty.

I think I also have the invitation design finally finished!

This month we need to:

- Finish map/direction cards. Order invitations - maybe smartpress.com for printing? Has anyone used them?
- Rent chairs, tables, sound system, etc
- Figure out what food to serve
- Get my dress altered (just the neckline, it fits great!)
- Maybe try on suits for the guys? Is this too soon? Or am I late on this? Who knows!
- Order a crapload of feathers. White mostly for the aisle and altar, but also turquoise, yellow, orange, and gray for decorations, bouts, everything. Anyone know a good place? There are tons on Amazon, but most have huge shipping costs.
- Figure out how our ceremony is actually going to go. Our friend is officiating for us.
- More flowers!

A lot to do! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, so I'm trying to limit things that need to get done each week so I don't go crazy.

Honestly, this wouldn't be so bad if work would ever slow down even a little... but that's not going to happen. We just don't have enough people half the time - I am literally doing so many things each day I don't know if anything will get done in time.
